I just got home from a lovely vacation with my daughter. We visited my son and grandson in North Carolina, and on the way back, on a whim, we stopped to see the Carter Caves in eastern Kentucky. What a treat!!
Miles of trails through 2000 acres of beautiful forest. Multiple natural bridges, caves, arches, cliffs, lakes and rivers. Some of the most spectacular limestone rock formations I’ve ever seen. Just as beautiful as theRed River Gorge, which is much more famous and much more crowded (but still absolutely worth seeing.)
My point is that I never even heard of Carter Caves; and there they are just an hour from Lexington, Ky. I think we often overlook or under appreciate wonderful things to see and do that are right in our own backyards.
